Caramelo Architects Associated wins the Americas Property Awards 2010 The result of the prize Americas Property Awards, which selects the best architects of the Americas has just been announced. The contest, in association with Bloomberg Television, puts a limited number of companies at the center of world attention. Among the winners, for the first time is a company from Bahia, Caramelo Architects Associated, which won three awards in the categories Business, Retail and Mixed Use with the following projects: Syene Corporate - Business, Salvador Prime - Mixed Use, Perini Graça - Retail. The winners will be invited to attend a gala dinner at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in Hyde Park, London on 26 and 27 November where they will be rewarded. The event is part of the International Property Awards, the world\'s most prestigious competition dedicated to finding the best professionals. The fact of the Caramelo Architects Associated has won this coveted award is proof that Brazil is not only capable of competing at high level, but also triumphing within the highly competitive Americas’ property arena. The participants who obtained the highest scores of the Americas Property Awards are being rejudged, as they compete against other winning companies from Europe, Africa, United Kingdom, Arabia and Asia to find the World\'s Best in each category. The results of the grand final of the International Property Awards will also be announced at the gala dinner in London. Much of the judging has been carried by the International Property Awards’ esteemed panel of judges at the London offices of Bloomberg Television but entries were also outsourced to leading experts in each particular field throughout the world. This year’s judges included Luke McKend, industry head property markets of Google UK; Peter Bolton King, group chief executive of the National Federation of Property Professionals; Christopher Hall, president elect of FIABCI; Thijs Stoffer, International Consortium of Real Estate Agents Association (ICREA); Fiona Nixon, chairman of the Australia Institute of Architects, Hendrik Nelde, president of FIABCI Belgium; Helen Shield, editor-in-chief of International Homes Luxury Collection magazine and Sven Johns, CEO of the German Real Estate Association. Antonio Caramelo: a life dedicated to Architecture Antonio Caramelo Vasques (61), from Bahia, married to Mrs. Iara for 45 years, father of three children, Mila, Frank and Davi, was born in Salvador on July 13, date that celebrates Saint Anthony, reason why his baptism name was given. Firstborn child of a Spanish and a Portuguese immigrant, Antonio graduated in architecture and urbanism from the Federal University of Bahia (FAU – UFBA) and now acts on the segment for almost 40 years, where in the time being he executed over 800 projects around the country and internationally. The trajectory of this distinguished figure, for the ones who do not know him, could be resumed through these last five lines. For those who already had the pleasure of having a close relationship with Antonio Caramelo, knows that an afternoon is too short to listen to all the curious and extraordinary stories of this man, who dedicated his life to architecture, always working with intelligence and sensibility of a man who has sweetness in his name.
An architect beyond his time Antonio Caramelo, an architect from Bahia, worked in several areas during his 30 years career, such as construction, urban planning and architectonic projects, focusing most of his project in Salvador, but also expanding to other cities such as Manaus, Belém, Cuiabá, Campo Grande, Fortaleza, Aracaju, Recife, Belo Horizonte, Uberlândia, Goiânia, Brasília, São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, Campinas, São José dos Campos, Londrina, Curitiba, among others. From his desk came out projects such as shopping malls, hospitals, clubs, industries, commercial and medical centers, banks and traveling agencies, highway complexes, commercial and recreation enterprises, business buildings, multiplex, residential towers and multifunction edifications. For all those themes, intense studies and researches were developed, also including participations in trips, fairs, courses and conventions, besides the visits to similar projects, using design methodology administrating a compulsive creativity and scientific base, technical function, with economic viability. With merit for his excellence on developed projects and conquered respectability at his work segment, Caramelo maintains numberless references and prizes, such as Ademi Prize – Architect of the Year, winner for two times now, considered to be Bahia’s Real Estate Market’s Oscar.
